Organized by:

UNIVERSITI PUTRA MALAYSIA, MaCGDI and ISPRS

1. INTRODUCTION
ISG 2009 was jointly organized by Laboratory of Spatial and Numerical Modeling, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysian Centre of Geospatial Data Infrastructure (MaCGDI) and International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) on 10th and 11th August 2009 at Crowne Plaza Mutiara Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. It was a premier event engaging the professionals, academicians and practitioners involving in a wide variety of interest fields of the geoinformation, with presenters coming from various part of the world namely India, Indonesia, Iran, Germany and United Kingdom.

The new ISG website was also launched during the opening ceremony. The website can be viewed at www.isg.org.my. History of ISG, past symposiums, web album, past keynotes and presenters’ papers and many more can be browsed from the website. This website will be the main portal for ISG events in the coming years.

The theme “Geoinformation for All” is chosen as it identifies the remarkable achievements of the community and related technologies in the generation of information from imagery. From near polar orbiting Landsat to equatorial orbiting Razaksat. From observation to measurement, monitoring and prediction. Eight keynote speakers, eleven invited speakers, 85 paper presenters, 17 exhibitors and about 200 participants joined the two days symposium that discussed research findings and experiences in Remote Sensing, Geomatics, Surveying and Mapping, Hydrography, Geographic Information System (GIS), Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), Location Based Services (LBS), Automated Mapping and Facilities Mapping.

Eight parallel sessions namely GIS (session 1B), GPS/GNSS (session 2B), Disaster Management (session 3B and 4B), Geoinformation Technology Applications (session 1C and 2C), Surveying and Mapping (session 3C and 4C), Photogrametry/Remote Sensing (session 1D and 2D) and ISPRS/Urban Management (session 3D and 4D) have been conducted on day two of the symposium. Three best poster awards and one best booth award had been awarded to the winners during the closing ceremony on day two.

In his closing speech, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Prof. Sr Dr. Abdul Kadir Taib, Chairman of ISG Steering Committee announced that the next ISG in 2010 will be jointly organized by ISM and MapAsia (GIS Development Sdn. Bhd.).
