7th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION ON GEOINFORMATION (ISG 2008)

1. INTRODUCTION
KLIUC held its ISG 2008 international conference from 13 to 15 October 2008. The
2 ½ day conference was held at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur.
The theme of the ISG 2008 conference was “Enhancing Infrastructure Development Through
Innovative Geoinformation Technology”. The paper presentations were held for 2 ½ days.
The event was organized by the university and was jointly organized by The Institution of Surveyors,
Malaysia (ISM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Sains
Malaysia (USM), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and Malaysian Centre for Geospatial Data Infrastructure
(MaCGDI). The event is supported by the Association of Authorised Land Surveyors Malaysia (PEJUTA).
The sponsors of this event was Kumpulan Ikram Sdn. Bhd. and The Land Surveyors Board Peninsular Malaysia (
LJT). A total of 327 participants (99 presenters, 207 participants, 10 Keynote Speakers and 11 exhibitors)
have attended the event.
2. CPD Hours
The Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) awarded the event with 15 approved CPD hours
3. THE LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF ISG 2008 ON 13 October 2008
The launching ceremony for ISG 2008 was held on the first day of the conference and it was attended
by 250 participants and guests. This event was launched by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education
of Malaysia. The Deputy Minister speech was followed by launching of the ISG 2008. The launching
was done by hitting the gong three times and followed by a multimedia presentation. The Deputy Minister
also viewed the exhibition booth by key players in the industry, such as:

c) Hydro Navigation (M) Sdn. Bhd.
d) Malaysian Centre for Geospatial Data Infrastructure (MaCGDI)

A press conference was held at the end of the launching ceremony.
4. PAPERS PRESENTED ON 13-15 October 2008
A total of ten keynote papers were presented during the first day of the conference.
The keynote speakers are Prof. Dr. Paul Cross, Dr. Mustafa Din Subari, Assoc. Prof.
Dr. Mamoru Mimura, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Ashaari Mohamad, Prof. Salleh Buang, Prof.
Dr. Chris Rizos, Prof. Dr. Halim Setan, Dr Azhari Mohamed, Prof. Dr. Volker Coors and
Pn. Fuziah Abu Hanifah. Ninety nine (99) papers were presented in four (4) parallel sessions in the 2nd and 3rd day of the conference. The papers presented ranged from the

5. The ISG 2008 Conference Dinner – 13 October 2008
The ISG 2008 Conference Dinner was held on 13 October 2008 at Grand Ballroom,
Best Western Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Around 200 persons attended the dinner.
The guest of honour for this event was Y. Bhg. Dato’ Prof. Sr Dr. Abdul Kadir Taib
(Deputy Chief Director of Survey and Mapping Malaysia) and Y.Bhg. Prof. Dato’ Wira Ir.
Dr. Mohamed Noor Hj. Salleh.
