3rd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION ON GEOINFORMATION (ISG 2004)

1. INTRODUCTION
UPM held its ISG 2004 international conference from 21 to 23 September 2004. The three day conference was held at Istana Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The theme of the ISG 2004 conference was “Cutting Edge Spatial Solutions in the Globalized World”. The paper presentations were held for 3 days and there were two workshops held on the 2nd and 3rd day. The event was organized by the university and was jointly organized by The Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia (ISM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Kuala Lumpur University College (KLIUC) and Malaysian Centre for Geospatial Data Infrastructure (MaCGDI). A total of 364 participants (138 presenters, 200 participants, 11 Keynote Speakers and 15 exhibitors) have attended the event.

2. THE LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF ISG 2004 ON 21 September 2004
The launching ceremony for ISG 2004 was held on the first day of the conference and it was attended by 250 participants and guests. This event was launched by the Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Haji Adenan Haji Satem, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment. The Minister speech was followed by launching of the ISG 2004. The launching was done by hitting the gong three times and followed by a multimedia presentation. The Minister also viewed the exhibition booth by key players in the industry, such as:

A press conference was held at the end of the launching ceremony.

3. PAPERS AND WORKSHOP PRESENTED ON 21-23 September 2004
A total of eleven keynote papers were presented during the first day of the conference. The keynote speakers are:

138 papers were presented in 15 parallel sessions namely: Agroinformatics, Environmatics, Marine Applications, Utility Management, Surveying and Mapping, Natural Resourses Management, Urban Planning, Transportation, Health, Emerging Applications, Land Management and Administration, Education, Disaster Management, Civil and Infrastructure and Military and Surveillance. Three workshops were also organized in the 2nd and 3rd day of the conference. The workshops were focused on the following topics:
1. Global navigation Satellite System (GNSS) by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustapha Din Subari
2. Geocentric Datum of Malaysia 2000 by Mr. Chang Leng Hua
3. 3D GIS-Concept, Development and Issues by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alias Abdul Rahman
